7. Understand your investments.

 

For all you know, you could be taking advantage of big opportunities but they're just passing you by because you didn't have a clue. Remember the adage, "Knowledge is Power."

 

8. Maintain job skills.

 

You want to keep yourself marketable especially if it was your spouse earning the bread all the while. Keep track of what's happening in your field. Stay abreast of trends and news.

 

9. Make a list of financial tasks and goals.

 

This is so you can budget your money carefully to accomplish them. Money management is crucial to financial security.

 

10. Establish credit.

 

You need to have a positive credit profile because soon enough you will be thinking of things you need and the money to pay for them. This is advantageous because you may need to apply for loans in the near future. Good credit gives you more and better financing options, as well as lower interest rates on various lines of credit.
