Top Reasons Why People Fall Into Debt

Top Reasons Why People Fall Into Debt

Debt is a universal problem. Almost everyone will experience it at least once in his lifetime. People fall into debt due to numerous reasons. Most of the times they are not aware that their debts are accumulating until it becomes so big and very difficult for them to pay off. Here are the top ten reasons why people find themselves in debt.

1. Maintaining their image

Most people will do anything just so they can keep up their image. They refuse to bend their image and do not spend based on their cash flow. They do this because they are afraid of what other people will think should their dress and lifestyle fall short of other people's expectations.  If you catch yourself buying expensive clothes, jewelry, gadgets, or expensive meals just to impress someone, you’ve likely fallen into this trap.

2. Not facing the problem head on

People would rather avoid the reality that they can no longer afford the comforts they became used to and would rather pretend that everything is alright, and they can afford to still spend their money like there is no tomorrow.

3. Spending money that has not come yet

This is the reason why there are so many credit card companies in the market nowadays. People willingly spend money that they will earn, thinking that it will come anyway. It is also easier to spend using plastic credit cards than good old paper bills because for some reason, most of the time one does not really feel he is spending that much on some fancy item using cards as compared to paying for it using real money.

4. Impulse buying

Most people fall into the trap of buying whatever it is they like the first time they see it in the store. They find it difficult to leave the store without having the item in their hands. Most people do not canvas prices or look for similar items in other stores which they can get for a fraction of the price.

5. Happiness that spending gives

Let's face it. Spending gives a natural high. For most hard core shoppers, there is no feeling more wonderful than leaving their favorite store toting one, two, three shopping bags full of items they love.

6. Because I deserve it

Some people, no matter their financial status, would gladly blow hard-earned money on a ridiculously expensive fancy haircut they do not really need, or yet another pair of intricately-beaded Moroccan sandals, or that gleaming Tiffany silver bracelet, or maybe that ugly monogrammed leather bag that costs several hundred dollars. Buying them makes them happy, and they think they deserve such after working very hard for weeks.
