Tips for College Graduates with Little or No Credit

Tips for College Graduates with Little or No Credit

Graduating is a bittersweet event because it means the end of the fun days in college and the start of one’s life in the "real world". This is really hard but it would be much harder if you do not have enough money or just a little to begin your journey with. When that is the case, there are still some things that you could do in order to maximize your resources. Here are some tips that might help if you're in that situation:

1. Consolidate loans

This means that you should pay or clear your balances with your credit card companies. This is to enable you to have a fresh start once you finish college.

2. Establish a good credit card history

Companies are biased when it comes to people that have a good credit history. The companies think that people with these kinds of records are much more responsible. This is essential for a person with little or no credit because they need to acquire a bigger credit limit for future major purchases.

3. Make payments on time

During this period, you must always see to it that you pay on time so that your record is clean. On credit reports with a small number of entries, even one past due payment is noticed.

4. Look for job opportunities

If you need money, find a job that would somehow ease your financial woes.  Any job that will give you experience in your chosen field of endeavor is better than no job at all.  You still have plenty of time to find the perfect job.

5. Save, Save, and Save

During this period, the word of the day must be to save. This is because you want to ensure that you will have the resources that you need to invest in the future. Saving money or sacrificing will all be worth it once that you have achieved your goal future goals.

6. Start a small business

The business that I am talking about here is not really a big one because you do not have the capital to do that. It could be just a small-scale one like typing job or selling second hand things on Internet auction sites for yourself or friends. Some people consider this a little degrading but there is really nothing wrong with this. If you need the money, you should know how to maximize your resources.

7. Apply for one credit card at a time
